Crankworx - Part 1 from Rotorua, NZ

After getting home a few days ago after a long trip from Rotorua, New Zealnd and reflecting back on the trip, I don't even know where to begin. There are so many stories that could be told, but I'd be here for days getting it all told, so I'll try to just do some of the highlights.

What felt like weeks of prep all came to a end when I boarded my plane last Sunday. Then two days later I was finally in New Zealand. As I sat in Auckland waiting for the final flight I began seeing some of the same faces that I'd see flying down the mountains of Rotorua, I knew this was really happening. What a great way to wait for a plane. Chatting with some of the most friendly athletes you could ever meet.

Day 1 was filled with lots of activity. The Enduro and Whip Off finals happened, and the guys were out taking the first runs on the Slopestyle course. Both finals saw some great competitions and amazing runs.

And I went to the top of Skyline and got to enjoy the beauty of the mountain and the city of Rotorua too. Only one word here, stunning!

Day 2 was all about the Mons Royale Dual Speed and Style and more of the Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle practice session.

Dual Speed and Style, it's exactly what it sounds like, fast riding with tons of style and tricks thrown in there too. Speed or Style is exciting to watch, put them together and it's down right epic!!

Day 3 featured the Rotorua Pump Track Challenge presented by RockShox and Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle practice session

All I can say here is BUURRR. The finals for the Pump Track Challenge begin in the late afternoon and end well after the sun goes down, bringing on the cold temps and winds.

It was so cold. You'll see that in the photos. All the guys huddled up in front of the big jumbotron displaying the race, the lights from the screen glowing back at them.  Bring on the cold and the wind! It was worth it all. This is one fast and fun race.

Day 4 - The day of the Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle in Memory of McGazza finals. For all the talk and all the hype, this lived up to it all, and then some. Take the time, go watch the reply from the event. The guys were out there sending it as big as I'd ever seen. It's worth the watch. I think I've re-watched it already a few times myself.

A awesome event for sure. My thanks to Crankworx, the media team in NZ. all the other photographers, and the City of Rotorua - Job well done!!

There's lots more to come. This is just the start of it all!!

Next month it's back to California for the 3rd round of the Los Angles Karting Championship and we've got some fun local biking events coming up that I'll likely hit up, so watch for that too.

AND

you can always book your own session.

The calendar is filling up fast!

If you are shredding down a hill, flying through the air on a mountain bike, or steering and turning a kart down a race track to victory, or are on a board or skis coming down a mountain just tearing it up, we want to be sure to capture it all!

February 3rd, 2016

Welcome to 2016

This year so far has gone by so quickly and so much has happened. I write this and in just this week alone there's been a lot that happened. Maybe too much, depending on how you see it.

Monday morning started with some terrible news. Mountain biking legend Kelly McGarry had passed away while out riding on his bike through the mountains of the country that he loved. Tuesday followed with the news that I received my media accreditation for Crankworx Rotorua. It's hard for me to think that I will be in New Zealand at a mountain biking event and Kelly won't be there for it.

I saw him at the last big mountain bike event of 2015, Rampage. I remember a kind soul with a big smile. The photo above is of Kelly on Run Number 2, high above the crowds. Thank you Kelly for making this a better sport because of what you bought to it.

What's new so far for 2016..........

We've also added more to our cyber footprint, adding Twitter, G+, and YouTube to the mix. Each space has it's own content, so be sure to give each a look, and a 'follow' too!

Tonight I will go and take photos for the WHL Everett Silvertips. Hockey has been one of those sports that I have followed and loved for many, many years, so this is a dream come true for me. I hope the team gets the win, and I get some great images to share.

Later this month I will be taking photos of the first LAKC race of 2016, so look for those to be posted here as well.

And there will be some new style photos from Michael Kors too. This will be the first floor set following the holidays so I am excited to see what's new!

I hope you're ready, expect lots more for 2016. This is just the beginning!!

And don't forget to setup your own session.

December 30th, 2015

December 30th 2015

As this year comes to a close it's hard to not look back and be proud of where this company has been, and where it's going to go.

Just a few months ago I stood up this web site, in under two weeks.I'm going to let that sink in for a few moments. Yes, really, in under two weeks. There were many, and I do mean many, late nights and a lot of planning ahead of the actual work. And yes it helps that I have spend the last 16 years of my life working in software and on web sites. I guess by now I know what I like.

What I had not been able to do in the past is a site for myself that represents and shows some of the things that I love and that I feel passionately about: Photography, Sports, Action, Extreme, People, Style, Adventure, and Fun. Okay, so maybe the 'Adventure' and 'Fun' are for me, lol. Make no mistake, this is an adventure for me, and fun as well, but also something that I have big plans for in 2016. I wouldn't have it any other way.

When I submitted to RedBull to get a media pass for the 2015 Rampage event and actually got it I thought I was dreaming. But when I arrived at the Press tent there was a pass, for ME!! The images that you see above are from that event.

But there's so much more that you don't hear or see about Rampage that I want to share. When you get there, and after you've checked in, you have a 4 mile hike up the mountain before you ever get to the event. Most everyone rides bikes in, I did walk though.

Another thing that you won't see in these photos is the awesome lunch that the folks from RedBull bring to you. Thank you for the best pot roast, potatoes and carrots that I have had in a long time.

All that aside, and more importantly, you have access to nearly anywhere on the course and from there you're able to create some amazing images. This is one well put on event and the organizers, and large group of volunteers,  do a great job at this event.

So now I am in planning mode for 2016 and I have a long list of events that I want to do: Crankworx, all three legs of the tour of course, as many FMB events as possible, including Rampage, again. Karting is in there too, along with the Style shoots for Michael Kors. And more local work supporting the effort to have a world class bike park in the Arlington and Darrington area.

So strap in, and get ready to hear and see more from McDonell Media in 2016

And don't forget to setup your own session.
